The Department of Meteorology warns that the low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal will develop into a depression in the next few hours and as a result the sea areas will be very rough in the next 24 hours, Meteorologist Udeni Weerasinghe said.

The low pressure area east of the island is likely to develop into a depression within the next 6 hours and develop into a hurricane in the next 30 hours, with the system moving northwest and reaching the northeast coast of the island by November 24th. Therefore, there is a possibility of continuous showers, strong or very strong winds between 8 and 14 North latitudes and 82 to 89 East longitudes in the next few days.

The Meteorological Department further requests you to be extra vigilant when fishing in these and other sea areas.
